20th October 2002:It was a game
full of incident. With Hoult installed as a challenger to Seaman's
England jersey by the national press, England's best keeper, statistically
at least, proceeded to drop a clanger in an otherwise impressive display.
I can't see him getting a look in to be honest, if only because England
are playing no friendlies this season.
On the plus side, Marshall and Clement both had good games and Roberts
was again excellent, especially in the second half. On the minus side,
McInnes was sorely missed. Wallwork was poor and our overall ball
retention is still not good enough.
I can't complain about the referee, although Kevin Keegan experienced
the promoted teams' lack of refereeing help when Goater was clearly
pulled back by Desailly. But the Man City-Chelsea game provided more
food for thought. City dominated the game but failed to score, and
ended up losing 3-0. We were fortunate against Blues after missing
so many chances. TV pictures show Roberts clearly off-side. A bit
of luck at last; that's two bits with Gregan's goal against Southampton.
We're still due a bit more.
But the biggest cheer of the game came when Robbie Savage was floored
by Darryl Powell - even his own players don't like him!
So I said eight to ten from four games, which means seven to nine
from the next three. So a point at Chelsea would be very handy. If
we can quieten the crowd in the first half hour, anything can happen
at Stamford Bridge.
