10th November 2002: Two points
dropped from a game that was there for the taking. For the first time
since the Leeds game, Albion were on top from the start. We got the
goal, Bolton were a man down so let's go for the jugular - or, alternatively,
let's defend as close to Hoult as possible and act as if we've got
ten men.
What was going on? It seemed such an organised tactic from the first
minute of the second half that I find it difficult to believe that
the lads weren't instructed to do it. Bolton weren't good enough to
play through us, but we gave them so much time to play long passes
over the top. We didn't pressure the ball at all in the second half.
Roberts had obviously got the beating of the centre backs. Campo should
have been sent off, and was evidently walking a tightrope in the second
half. We should have kept attacking - Dobie did nothing second half.
Why not bring Hughes on, at least he will work for you, defend from
the front.
I'm sorry to say Megson got it wrong again. But at least we didn't
lose, and we stay off the bottom for at least another week.
Hughes is a proven goalscorer - all he needs is games. The odd substitute
appearance will not work for him. He's obviously still recovering
from being sent to Coventry, but give him a run in the first team,
and he will repay you with goals.
Another crunch game next week.
