16th November 2002: A much better
performance than in the last derby game, but I was a little mystified
by Megson's decision to omit Koumas from the bench.
I suppose he was always going to persist with Dobie as he scored last
week, but I personally think he did little to warrant a start next
week. Having said that, the Ninja did little when he came on although
that had more to do with the fact that he came on just before Gregan,
the main playmaker, was replaced by Dichio (presumably he took a knock?)
and when Villa were having their best spell. He ended up isolated
on the left side of a front three with no service.
If Dichio makes it on the bench next week, I'll be very surprised
- he was plain awful.
And so I return to Koumas. Potentially the most creative midfielder
we have, certainly the most expensive, and Megson refuses to play
him. Surely a bit of creativity is what we are lacking!! Give him
a run.
