19th January 2003: The recovery
starts...? Who knows, this could be the start of the latest Great
Escape. We're a point up on the escape plan I outlined last
week.
It was a good solid performance at Elland Road and the point was well
deserved. More away performances like that and that escape will be
a possibility. OK we didn't fashion that many chances, but I didn't
expect to at Leeds. It was good to see the Ginger Ninja back fit again
and he looked very lively and maybe worth a start. It would be great
to see him and Roberts re-discover their excellent partnership from
the season before last.
And credit where it's due - I've criticised Wallwork in the past few
weeks but at Leeds he was excellent. He played in an unfamilar position
at right wing back replacing the injured Balis, and he looked at home
and very comfortable and looked good going forward. Keep up the good
work.
As for the transfer situation, Udeze is on board and will hopefully
fight Clement for the left wing back slot. Clement looked better yesterday
so maybe it will have a positive impact on him. Rios looks like he's
coming but it's another striker we need and maybe he can persuade
Ballesta to come. Tim Sherwood would be a great addition in my opinion,
if only to add some more competition for the midfield - with a suspension
coming up for AJ now, it could be very timely.
A comfortable win at Watford next week would add more confidence to
the team - let's hope we're on the way back.
