6th April 2003: A goal would be
nice, wouldn't it. Apparently, Hoult has said that the new aim is
not to finish bottom, the first aim is to score again, then to win
one, and then we'll see if there are any games left.
We were well beaten at 'Boro. They have some quality players and we
should pat ourselves on the back for beating them in November! The
fans were magnificent, making more noise than the home fans when three-nil
down, strangely reminiscent of the Reebok a couple of years ago. The
Premiership will be a poorer place without us.
It's difficult to know what to say at this point in the season. I
could criticise and say that AJ should have started and Hughes should've
come on, etc. but I doubt that it would've changed the outcome of
the game, and it certainly won't change the outcome of the season.
All we're looking for are small mercies now, a few goals and a few
points. Not finishing bottom would be good, but going to Sunderland
in a fortnight will be very difficult. Beating our 24 point total
from our last relegation would be nice, too.
I suppose all we want to do is go out fighting, and not whimper into
Division 1. Give us some hope for next season, maybe make a difference
to somebody else's European ambitions.
But target one is to score again!
