20th April 2003: In full voice,
the Fat Lady is finally competing against the hoardes of the Albion
faithful as relegation is now certain, although she has been practising
her repertoire for some time now.
Ironic that it should be sealed on the day when Albion's luck finally
turned with a less-than-convincing performance producing three points
for the first time since that ray of false hope at Maine Road. And
somehat fitting that a McInnes brace should consist of a mishit plus
a thundering 2-yarder, although his all-round performance was excellent.
Hoult made up for his flaps last week with some fine saves, although
he did gift Sunderland their goal to ruin his chance of a second clean
sheet in 2003. And Jason Roberts finally showed glimpses of the form
we know he can produce with a good substitute appearance.
I look to next season with optimism as I believe we are a better side
than we were this time last year, and a clear summer for further strengthening
of the squad should stand us in good stead, and install us as one
of the promotion favourites.
But lets finish the season with pride. We must have a chance of beating
Spurs and it would be nice to get at least one big scalp before we
depart the Premiership scene for a while.
