16th August 2003: Hughesie is
back! It was either going to be off his knee or his backside, or a
wonder goal that broker his duck. I'm glad it was the latter, and
what a goal. That was the Ninja at his best. I can't see Megson failing
to notice the signs this time - Hughes must start against Watford,
surely.
As for the rest of the team, O'Connor was superb but Koumas largely
anonymous. The only good thing to say about that is it shows that
we may be able to win games without him. Hopefully, the knock that
saw him substituted isn't too serious. It wasn't an entirely convincing
performance as the defence wasn't completely solid. Gaardsoe looked
out of sorts in the first half and there were a couple of hairy moments
when Burnley probably should have scored again. But I guess we need
to give them time to get used to one another. All in all, a good win
in a potentially tricky game.
And, it appears, the bizarre injury jinx has struck again - this time
it's Gregan who has cut his heel at home.
And Hartlepool away - thanks very much!!
