23rd August 2003: If we can play
like that and win, we won't do too badly this season. It wasn't a
vintage performance, the lack of creativity was evident in the first
half, but it's three points when one would have been satisfactory
from my point of view.
I must make a comment about the referee who I thought was inept. There
were a number of ridiculous decisions although he did appear to even
them out. At one point in the second half, the linesman had his flag
up for about a minute as Watford attacked - the ref gave a corner
to Watford and his attention was drawn to the linesman who had, obviously,
now put his flag down and was therefore not consulted - what do these
guys think they're doing? As I live in Hertfordshire, I was back home
in time to see the Preston-Sunderland game and watched an equally
inept refereeing performance - I gues we can look forward to more
of the same!
Having watched Monday's opponents, Preston, twice this season on TV,
they can be dangerous. They can count themselves unlucky to have lost
those two games but they will obviously be down. We'll need to watch
the crosses and set pieces, and defend better than we did against
Burnley, but we should get the three points.
