26th August 2003: This is definitely
a good start, if only in terms of results. The opening day debacle
is forgotten and Albion are sitting proudly in second place, at least
until this evening.
It is true to say that performances have not been sparkling and both
Watford and Preston can count themselves unlucky not to have got anything
from the games, but how many times did we say that about the Baggies
last season? Results are what matter, and they are coming thick and
fast now. Yes, we all want the boys in blue and white to play attractive
football and thump everyone by four or five goals, but let's allow
them a few weeks to get used to playing with one another - I'm sure
it will come.
We'll just have to be content to watch our neighbours getting thumped
four or five every week for a bit - I'm sure we can all cope!!
Another good test on Saturday, although Derby haven't started well
and are still looking for their first win. Apparently, their 4-1 defeat
to Cardiff was flattering to the Welshmen, but they must be suffering
a crisis of confidence having also lost heavily to Stoke. It could
be backlash time, but hopefully we'll be able to cope.
