18th December 2003: Like a Canadian
Mountie, Megson always gets his man eventually and every Mountie needs
a horse, right?
I've never been convinced by Geoff Horsfield, but given that he's
scored against us the last two times he's played against us, maybe
I'm just bitter. He's an Albion player now so I'll give him a chance
to shine. I'd be more excited were we to get Darren Huckerby, but
I guess the odds are that he'll sign for Norwich unless we can persuade
his agent that Albion is a better bet for good wages and promotion.
We'll just have to wait and see.
A word or two about the Arsenal game. On the playing side, there were
both positives and negatives to come out of it. I thought we played
well for most of the game against a relatively experienced side, but
it was very disappointing to concede in the way we did. We could do
with a few clean sheets to get us back in the swing of it. We are
still unbeaten in nine league games, so there's a record there to
protect. The crowd was disappointing, however. I suppose the additional
costs for season ticket holders so close to Christmas is a factor,
as was the poor attendance from Arsenal fans, but how many would've
forecast the second lowest crowd of the season to be a cup quarter-final
against Arsenal?
But looking forward, we've a new striker on board at last and maybe
another to come, be it Huckerby or perhaps the Dane who's been on
trial. Another nine points before we reach 2004 would go down very
nicely.
