21st December 2003: The lead is
lost thanks to two very sloppy games. Against Crewe, we looked a good
attacking force without the clinical touch that would've secured the
points even with the two awful goals we conceded. Against Coventry,
the chances came and went, with Hulse the chief culprit, and a fortunate
goal near the end put paid to our unbeaten record.
With Norwich beating Ipswich today, we're off the top for the first
time since we won at West Ham, and hopefully it will jolt the players
into action - this division is not going to be a walk in the park.
Charity may begin at home, but Albion have been far too charitable
at home in the past two months. We need to make sure that Derby get
no Christmas presents when they visit the Hawthorns on Friday, three
points for the Baggies are absolutely essential in my opinion, to
get our season back on track. And when we visit the Hockey Stadium
in Milton Keynes next Tuesday, we need to make Wimbledon look like
a buch of girls in skirts and not pussy foot around like we did when
they visited the Hawthorns.
It's ironic that the last team we beat in the league at home is the
one that has now overtaken us at the top. Since then, Norwich have
picked up 24 points from a possible 33, Albion have picked up just
17. It's a miracle that we've stayed top for so long.
It's time to show this division what we are made of. We ARE good enough
to win this league, we just need to start showing it.
