8th February 2004: It was a poor
result at Preston, and an unexpected one given our away record this
season. Having not seen the match, I can't comment as to whether the
reversion to 3-5-2 had an impact, although from afar, Clement in a
three-man midfield with Johnson and Kinsella doesn't seem to be very
creative!!
Obviously, Megson was upset as he turned down an invitation to appear
on Sky's "Goals on Sunday" today to get the team on the training ground
again.
Although we are five points behind Norwich, we're still four points
clear of third place and much better placed than the last time we
visited Deepdale. On that occaision, we lost 1-0 and Jason Roberts
got injured again - it was the end of February and it left us eleven
points off second spot. It was our last league defeat of that season
and we all know what happened.
Hopefully it is just a blip, and we'll come out and get three points
at home to Cardiff next week in time for a crucial trip to Brammall
Lane the following week. But with JR now finding his scoring touch
with the boys from the JJB, the game at the Hawthorns on 16th March
is looking very big indeed.
