15th February 2004: A big result
as we approach a big month. With our next two away games at Sheffield
United and Norwich City followed shortly afterwards by Wigan at home,
it's a big month for the Baggies. With Norwich and Wigan both winning
yesterday it was vital that Albion picked up all three points.
Although I would have preferred not to see Cardiff equalise, it ws
particularly encouraging to see the boys pick themselves up and go
and get the winner.
Personally, I think the midfield still needs some work. I was encouraged
to hear Megson say that he was disappointed that the midfield weren't
following the strikers into the box, because that is something that
has been evident for some time. But I also feel a fit Koumas should
play in the centre of the park in a flat midfield four, and with Robinson
at left back, Sakiri should be given a run on the left side in place
of Clement. However, I would still advocate a diamond with Kinsella
or Gregan at the back (or Clement who had his best midfield performance
there), Sakiri and Johnson in the middle and Koumas behind the front
two.
Hoult's injury is a big loss but I'm pleased to see Murphy get a chance.
He did well yesterday and he has the makings of a great 'keeper. Pressman
is satisfactory as a short-term back up, but we will need to look
elsewhere should Hoult's injury prove to be long term.
