14th March 2004: Another vital
win saw the Baggies join Nowich on 67 points as the leaders lost at
Cardiff.
As far as Division one is concerned, it was another satisfactory performance
from Albion as they ground out another result having gone behind.
It is clear, however, that we still need significant improvements
to the squad to survive in the Premiership, should we get there.
In the Premiwership, we won't get the number of chances we got at
Gresty Road, which leads me to the conclusion that we still need a
quality striker. We have six forwards at the moment, but none of them
have yet proved that they are good enough for the top flight. Horsfield
is as close as any, but his strike rate isn't high enough. I haven't
really seen enough of Skoubo to have an opinion, but he appears to
be sixth in line as far as GM is concerned, which suggests he's not
got it, unless he's not fit enough. Plus he may not be around next
season.
But as for this season, we've got another big game on Tuesday against
Wigan, but the huge test that is looming on the horizon is the small
matter of a trip to the Stadium of Light in April. But with a bit
of luck, and a lot of hard work, it might be all over by then.
