22nd March 2004: Blow me, I've
never known a game to be postponed due to wind before, but it sounds
like it was the correct decision. Although it would have been nice
to have the opportunity to take advantage of Norwich losing, it was
probably dangerous and playing in those sorts of conditions is always
a lottery.
It does appear that the re-arranged game could prove to be the final
away game of the season, which may take a little edge off the Reading
game but we can have two parties can't we!!
The dream that Wimbledon's creditors would do us a favour was, in
all reality, no more than that. But we won't need any outside help,
of course. West Ham seem to be going downhill away from home - having
not lost on their travels in the league since 20th September, they've
now lost two on the bounce although their home form seems to have
recovered somewhat with nine goals in two games producing two victories.
But you really need to look at Sunderland, and perhaps Millwall, as
the sides most likely to catch up the top two - there's two big away
game in a week! Notice I say the top two - Norwich may be rocking
slightly more than ourselves and they too can be caught.
We know from experience (thankfully a positive one) that it ain't
over 'till it's over. Two more big games tomorrow night with Sunderland
and Sheffield United both at home to sides at the wrong end of the
table. Sunderland can move within eight points of us, Blades within
five. I'm not sure whether Warnock is trying to convince himself,
or increase anxiety for the top two by saying that ourselves and Norwich
could buckle under the pressure. Either way, it's fairly ironic given
United's erratic form of late.
With 27 points on offer, the simple fact is that we're up if we get
23 points! Therefore, if we repeat our results of the last nine games
of our last promotion campaign, seven wins and two draws, we're back
in the Premiership.
