18th August 2004: More transfer
rumours emerged today with a new target, Lazio midfielder Ousmane
Dabo, apparently interesting Megson. He has a wealth of experience
playing for a number of top European clubs, but it is unclear if he
has any interest in a move to the Hawthorns.
Meanwhile, Kanu is reported to have passed on good reports of our
great club to Aruane Dindane, the Anderlecht striker we have been
linked with for some time. If true, it is certainly good news although
we still have to get some sort of agreement with the Belgian club.
Looking forward to the derby match on Sunday, Carlton Cole followed
up his goal against the Saints with a brace for the England U-21 side
last night, so he will certainly need to be kept under tight control
by the new look Baggies defence. Angel, on the other hand, scored
for the reserves last night in his first comeback game and while there
is no indication that he will be fit enough to make a start on Sunday,
a position on the bench maybe within his reach.
In another interesting development, Megson has made a clear distinction
between club captain and team captain. Traditionally, the club captain
has always been the team captain when on the field, but after announcing
that the team captain is to be decided by a vote on the day of the
game, Big Dave has been named as club captain in place of the transfer-listed
Sean Gregan. It is an interesting choice given that he didn't start
the game on Saturday, but his commitment to the club is unwavering,
a fact reinforced by his decision not to play for Jamaica this week
and concentrate on winning back a place in the first XI.
