8th February 2005: Jonathan Greening
will be suspended for this Saturday's game against Spurs - I thought
that was the case but read the wrong part of the FA website yesterday.
This news means that Albion are very short of midfielders this weekend
and that Koumas is very likely to be granted a starting role in the
Cup replay.
Interestingly, Robson has stated that JK's lack of involvement in
recent weeks has been down to a series of niggling injuries and illnesses
rather than any lack of application on the Welshman's part. Pop also
believes that JK is one of Albion's most talented players, something
that not many would disagree with, and has challenged him to take
his chance on Saturday.
That is encouraging news from my point of view. Although Albion's
forward play has improved in recent weeks, Koumas is a match-winning
player when he is on form, and the likes of Earnshaw and Campbell
should thrive on the sort of service he can provide when he is at
his best. If he can produce his best, he should be able to create
the chances that could win Albion more points, and he can score a
few himself as well.
Today's other news is that Albion will after all have another Premiership
game this month. The crucial clash against Harry Redknapp's Southampton
has been rearranged for Tuesday 22nd February.
