Just in case anyone is interested, here are the jonwant.com Player
of the Season Awards for 2005-2006.
As regular readers will know, I (and the occasional guest reporter)
have marked each player out of ten in each game I have seen this
season, and also awarded a Man of the Match Award for each game.
Based on these figures, and a little discretion, I have made my
choices for the Player of the Season Awards.
In 3rd Place is TOMASZ KUSZCZAK. After benefiting
from an injury to Chris Kirkland, our Pole in Goal made the goalkeeper's
jersey his own and has produced a string of consistent performances
to earn himself a spot in the Polish World Cup Squad and the BBC
Save of the Season award. He had an average rating of 6.59 and 2
Man of the Match awards.
In 2nd Place is RONNIE WALLWORK. After a dodgy
start to the season, Ronnie returned to the side to become a rock
at the heart of the Albion midfield once again and, suspensions
apart, developed a good understanding with Nigel Quashie. His average
rating was an impressive 6.79 and he was awarded excellent 7 Man
of the Match awards.
There was a clear winner of the jonwant.com Player of the Season.
With an average rating of 6.79 and a massive 9 Man of the Match
Awards, it goes to CURTIS DAVIES. Not only was
Curtis Albion's most consistent performer, he is one of the youngest
in the team and has produced an excellent level of football in his
first season in the Premiership. He has all the makings of becoming
n England regular in the future and I only hope that Albion can
hold onto him for a few more years.
There are other players that deserve a
special mention. Jonathan Greening was starting to produce some
excellent displays late on in the season warning him a string of
MoM awards and Kanu has also had an excellent season. And had Chris
Kirkland not got injured, I'm sure he would have gone on to push
all of the above to the award as he achieved an average rating of
7.50 and 3 MoM awards in the twelve games he played.
